Christmas Events - December 2024

All of the school have been busy decorating our trees again this year as we spread our Christmas spirit with families and our community - we cannot wait to share our Christmas Fair with our families and community this year too. We have also been decorating the inside of school and our classrooms as we prepare for the Christmas holidays.

Year 3 and 4 have been to Heathfield Church to Experience Christmas today and some Year 6 pupils are joining Christ the King in their Carol Service later this week.

We have lots of things to look forward to this next week in the lead up to Christmas (see below for details). We hope to share many of these with you. 

Friday 13th December

Christmas Jumper Day in School (remember not to worry if you don’t have one, just come in your own clothes)

Christmas Fair after school in our school Hall - Entrance through KS1 Playground - EVERYONE welcome - we are very excited to be sharing this with you and raising money for our children.

Monday 16th December 3pm

Carols on the KS1 Yard for Parents of Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Tuesday 17th December 10am

EYFS Nativity (supported by Years 1,3,5) - spaces are limited to EYFS parents / family members and Narrators

Tuesday 17th December 2pm

EYFS Nativity (supported by Years 2,4,6) - spaces are limited to EYFS parents / family members and Narrators

Some Year 6 children to go to join Christ the King at their Carol Service with Mrs Casey and Mrs Tierney

Wednesday 18th December 9.30am

Carol Service in Church led by Year 6

Christmas Dinner Day

Wednesday 18th December 3pm

Carols on the KS2 Yard for Parents of Years 3-6

Please don’t forget to order you child’s Christmas Dinner on Orian’s SchoolHub as soon as possible.

Thursday 19th December - Party Day!

Children invited to wear Christmas Jumpers and Outfits.

Friday 20th December 

School closes at 1.30pm. Children may come in their own clothes.

Newsletter 29.11.24

Sad to say goodbye and saying welcome back and welcome…

Over the next few weeks, and into the new year, there are going to be some key changes to some classes.

I am sorry to say that we will be losing Mrs Bloor (our Year 1 teacher) from our Teaching team on Friday 13th December. Mrs Bloor is getting ready for a very exciting adventure for herself and her family as they move to Australia for a new adventure and new beginning for their family unit. We will all miss Mrs Bloor incredibly but wish her and her family an amazing time on their travels.

We are very happy to say that Mrs Marsden will be returning from her Maternity Leave on Monday 16th December and will be taking over the Class Teacher role for our Year 1 class with the help of Mrs Percival on a Wednesday. Mrs Marsden has been in for a number of days over the last few weeks to get to know the class well.

We also welcome Miss Heffernan to our teaching team. Miss Heffernan will be starting with us in December and will be taking over Miss Tanner’s teaching responsibility in Year 3 from January 2025. Miss Tanner will be moving to share the teaching or Year 6 with Mrs Casey from January 2025.

It is quite unusual to have so many changes mid year but I can assure you the children are at the heart of every decision we make and we have made sure that the change over of staff mid year is able to be as seamless as possible. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch through the school office or grab me on the yard.

Next Friday will be another own clothes day and we ask that children can bring in a bottle (either a non-alcoholic, an alcoholic drink or shampoo, bubble bath, etc.) for our bottle tombola for our Christmas Fair on 13th December at 3.15pm! All bottles will be collected from children and stored in a safe place.

The patron saint of Scotland since the 8th century. Andrew was an apostle and brother of St Peter. In the Anglican communion he is associated with missionary activity.

A couple of things have really stood out this week for me - the first was a Year 3 child coming to show me some amazing maths work and being so impressed with the perseverance and determination in their approach to problem solving and another was our first Advent Assembly speaking about Kindness - it made me really reflect on the notion of ‘kindness’ and that if everyone’s approach was that of kindness, the world would be a wonderful place to be.

That takes me to an ask. Please could I ask that if there is something that you are worrying about that staff are approached kindly, we are all here to fix it together and our staff care just as much about all of the children as I know you all do. It is difficult when staff are approached in a way that is on occasion confrontational and not in the best interests of working together for the best for your children. Please remember, no member of staff would work in a school if they did not want what is best for your children and no member of staff comes to work to be shouted at. I feel very fortunate to work in a school with so many amazing professionals as well as children and families. As always, if there is anything that you ever would like to discuss, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Three weeks now in the lead up to Christmas - we can’t wait to share the Christmas Fair with everyone on Friday 13th December and hope it will become one of many again.

Newsletter 22.11.24

Past - Present - Future

Well, we’ve had a ball celebrating 60 years of learning in our school building. Monday was 60 years since our current school building was officially opened on 18th November 1964. 60 years on, we are preparing for the possibility of moving into a new school building within the next 5 years and with the possibility of many more memories to be made and learning to take place in a brand new building. The idea is so exciting at the same time as being quite humbling that this will be the next part of our All Saints Story.

Our school’s history is so rich and full with so many memories, many of them some of our school council were lucky enough to hear about from some of the pupils that started in our Nursery 60 years ago when we first moved from the old building. One of the main stories that stood out was that the old building wasn’t seen as fit for purpose because the toilets were outside and that the playground was the street behind the school!

We are SO proud of our school and our children. They have had the best time learning about the different decades that we have been in our school building and they all enjoyed sharing this in Assembly this morning - I am sure they will have told you some stories!

Here’s to looking forward to the future and being thankful for all our school has done for so many in the past.

Thank you to ALL who have been involved in making All Saints the special place it is.

24 November (Sunday) MARTYRDOM OF GURU TEGH BAHADUR (1675) Sikh

Under orders from the Moghul emperor, the ninth Guru was executed in public opposite the Red Fort in Delhi, so sacrificing his head rather than his faith, on behalf of Kashmiri Hindus, who had turned to him for help.

I think this week has been one of my most enjoyable weeks in the 20 years I have been teaching. Seeing the children so engaged about celebrating our birthday and learning about the different decades has been amazing, on top of the fantastic learning that is going on every day as it is. Our Decade Assembly this morning was definitely a huge highlight for me but then, it is so hard to pick out just one this week with party day on Monday, our Afternoon Tea and meeting past pupils on Wednesday and then today’s decade assembly and finishing off the week with the Pantomime! I am sure there have been some stories told at home!

I really would like to thank all of the staff and families for the fantastic effort that has been put into making this week such a success.

It has certainly been a change in temperature this week and we have been sent quite a few challenges our way. Please make sure you are safe this weekend when you are out with the reports of a storm coming and the remains of the ice / snow. Take care.

Newsletter 8.11.24

Remembrance

This weekend marks Remembrance Sunday with Remembrance Day following on Monday 11th November. Children at school will mark it by a 2 minute silence and some Year 6 children will be heading over to the Peace Garden to lay a wreath and take part in the Remembrance Service.

It is such an important part of our history and one that should never be forgotten. Teaching the children about reliance, patience and hope is important for every day life and to remember the sacrifice all who lived through the World Wars and many wars after and their ‘hope’ of a better tomorrow.

Begining on Remembrance Sunday and running until the following Sunday each year, Inter Faith week seeks to strengthen good inter-faith relations, increase awareness of the different and distinct faith communities in the UK, and increase understanding between people of religious and non-religious beliefs. It was fantastic to see so many happy parents this week at our first Parents’ Meetings of the year. I am sure there were many treats given following the meetings. We are so proud of all of the hard work that the children are putting in and know that so much of that is also with the support of you at home.

I am really looking forward to our birthday celebrations starting on the 18th November. Remember to check last week’s Newsletter for any details about your child’s class decade (EYFS can choose any decade or come in their own clothes).

It’s Our Birthday!

On the 18th November 1964 our school was officially opened on the site we are on now - which means we’re 60 this year!!!! Woohoo! AND… it would be rude not to mark this by learning about our school and the decades that it has been through!

This means that we’re going to be having a PARTY and celebrating our school and the 60 years of education it has given (not forgetting the very many years before that on the old school site!).

On Monday 18th November, all children are invited to come into school in their party clothes and we are going to have a party to start the week off. On Wednesday afternoon, we will be inviting guests from the Church, Governors and past pupils to come and have afternoon tea served by some of our older children.

Throughout the week the classes will each learn about a decade since the 60s when our school building was built.

EYFS - Looking at toys across the decades

Year 1 - 2000s

Year 2 - 2010s

Year 3 - 1980s

Year 4 - 1960s

Year 5 - 1990s

Year 6 - 1970s

On Friday 22nd November, children are welcome to come dressed as their decade (or in their own clothes) and each class will do a presentation on their decade, ending our week with a Pantomime in the afternoon!

We’re very excited and can’t wait to share our celebrations with you!

After listening to parent views and taking these into consideration, we are going to extend our policy to letting children bring in flavoured water as well as water for in class. It is important to us that children stay hydrated however, I must stress that sugar free juice will only be allowed in exceptional circumstances and we will not allow any kind of fizzy or energy drinks in school.

All children have access to water throughout the day and milk in school at lunchtime also.

1st November - All Saints Day (Our School Feast Day) - Christianity

This day provides a chance to offer thanks for the work and witness of all saints, recognising that not all are known or specially celebrated. Many churches stress this day by holding events especially designed for children.

It has been great to welcome the children back again this week. I have had the absolute pleasure of watching learning in some classes and seeing some fantastic learning being brought to me. It has certainly been a week where I have remembered why I love working in a school with so many fantastic children.

This term promises to be a busy but exciting one, with our 60th Birthday Celebrations taking place, Christmas preparations, the return of our Christmas Fair (more details to follow!), Year 5’s Class Assembly and that’s only some highlights, not to mention all of the fantastic learning going on, day in, day out in all of the classes.

Newsletter 18.10.24

Staying Healthy

Staying fit and healthy is such an important part of life. This week, Key Stage 2 children have been lucky enough to experience a number of sessions in ‘alternative sport’ ideas. The Nerf activity day went down particularly well, as you can imagine, with the children and staff (naming no names!).

After school activities and keeping children busy and active during the holidays can help them stay fit and healthy, at the same time as encouraging them to have fun and develop new skills and can really help with sleep patterns too. I am always so happy to hear about all of the amazing things children at our school do, from horse riding to BMX racing and so much more.

We were very proud of the children and the way they took part in these taster sessions and hope to continue introducing new activities throughout the year. Upper KS2 will be learning taekwondo later in the year too and we will be having our outdoor activity day again later in the year.

Thank you to Miss England for arranging all of these exciting opportunities for our children.

World Festivals and Celebrations

17 * October (Thursday) to 23 October (Wednesday) SUKKOT Jewish

This harvest festival recalls the 40 years the Jews spent in the wilderness on the way from slavery in Egypt to freedom in the Promised Land. A temporary hut or booth – called a sukkah – is used for eating meals and for visits and socialising.  The roof, which has to be open in part to the elements, is covered with branches and decorated with fruit

Thank you for the kind response for our Harvest Collection this week - Mustard Tree. We had a lovely Harvest Assembly yesterday and the children were so reflective thinking of our world and what we can be grateful for.

Thank you for your patience this week on the KS2 yard. It is never going to be easy having an entrance out of action for a number of days but I appreciate everyone’s support and patience (children and staff included!).

We finish for half term today and I hope that everyone has a lovely week whatever you have planned and we look forward to seeing you all back (hopefully with the KS2 shutters fixed) on Monday 28th October.

The children have worked so hard this half term and I cannot believe we are already a 6th of the way through the school year. This next term is always a favourite of mine (even though it is always a busy one!). Our school building will be 60 years old on 18th November (with a possibility of a new school being built in the near future, this will likely be our last big birthday!) so we will be having celebrations as a school - watch this space!
